The following books were listed on the Chippewa Valley Schools library Catalog at the time of observation.
Booklooks.org has developed a content based rating system that rangers from 0 “For Everyone” to 5 “Aberrant Content” More info on that rating system can be found on their website. Where available that rating is listed along with the book. While there is only one book that we are aware of rated 5 “Aberrant Content”, there are many rated 4 out of 5.
The changing meaning of “young adult”
Most scholarly and governmental sources put young adult between 18 and 26. Some newer definitions bring that down to somewhere in the teenage years. A skeptic might suggest that the changing definition is meant to put things that were previously recommended for adults into the hands of teens. At a minimum, no books listed as young adult belong in elementary schools and none of the books listed as adult (many of which are in middle school) belong in any school. But we don’t rest our ultimate judgment on the publisher’s ever-changing view of what’s appropriate for our kids.

UPDATE!
We’ve made some progress getting inappropriate books removed. The school isn’t acknowledging that any of the books are inappropriate, but they have removed over a dozen by “weeding” out challenged books that don’t get checked out frequently.
So far all 6 books that have gone though the district’s super-secret committee process have been approved to stay. We refer to it as super-secret because they violate the Public Meetings Act by holding the committees in secret and they claimed not to have any record of committee members in response to a FOIA request plainly violating that act as well.
Put another way, they are willing to shed the sexual material that students are ignoring, but connivingly insistent on keeping the bits of sexual propaganda that are successfully indoctrinating our kids.
And other books appear to have been removed without any acknowledgment by the district.
Books for which the school has taken some action on will be noted with “UPDATE!” and expanding those titles will give you the details of the update.
